Villa Liechtenstein

In the Salzkammergut region of Austria, in Altaussee, Villa Liechtenstein is located in a large park-like garden for the last 130 years.

A Trip to the Past

In Altaussee, in the Styrian Salzkammergut, Hedwig von Liechtenstein built the Villa Liechtenstein in 1890.

From 1896 the owner was Prince Johann von und zu Liechtenstein. The villa served him as a summer residence near Bad Ischl, where the Austrian Emperor Franz Josef - and with him a large number of members of the Viennese court - spent his summer vacation.

In the years that followed, many aristocrats, high officials of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, artists and intellectuals visited Villa Liechtenstein during the summer months.

The Present

Today you can spend your vacation at any time of the year in the outbuildings of the villa, surrounded by 20,000m² park-like garden and the unique landscape of the Ausseerland with its clear lakes and untouched mountains.

Spring with its wonderful flower meadows, summer when you swim in the lakes and enjoy the warm climate with cool nights, autumn with its wonderful weather for hiking and the foliage that sometimes brings very strong yellows and reds into the valley, and winter with lots of snow and romantic walks, snow shoeing, ski touring and skiing on the surrounding mountains.
